A friend recently informed me of web based image editors. We’ve all heard of web based email with Hotmail / Gmail and Google proved a whole office suite with a word processor, spread sheet and presentation applications.

Now, let me introduce you to web based image editors – and pretty impressive they are to. I’ve been playing with 2 recently, both flash based Pixlr and Aviary Image Editor.

Considering these are applications have to download every time you run them I have to say they are mighty quick, especially when you compare them to the industry leader Photoshop coming in at 600mb+.

All the basic image editing features you would expect are available, colour correction, layers, filters, re-size, crop, clone and more.

The only draw back that really exists is that the file size of the image you are editing has to be uploaded or downloaded which can be a bit tough on bandwidth. But, for quick basic image editor they come up to the mark.
